PrEP online in Malaysia: one tablet a day to prevent HIV

Tenof-EM is HIV PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) made by Hetero. Each tablet contains emtricitabine 200 mg and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg, the same two medicines as the original brand Truvada. A CAREPLUS Clinic doctor checks every order before it is sent.

How well does it work? Taken every day as prescribed, PrEP lowers the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, and from injecting drugs by at least 74%. It works much less well if doses are missed.

Who is it for? PrEP is recommended for people at higher risk of HIV, including:

1. People whose partner has HIV
2. People with more than one sexual partner who do not always use condoms
3. People who inject drugs and share needles or other equipment
4. Men who have sex with men, especially with condomless anal sex or several partners
5. Transgender people who have anal sex without a condom, especially with several partners

How ordering PrEP online works

2. Send us your test results on WhatsApp or upload them at checkout (see “How to take”). No results? Our doctor offers a free consultation.
3. Our doctor reviews your order and may call you briefly.
4. Your PrEP is sent by tracked courier anywhere in Malaysia, or you collect it at the clinic.

Refunds

PrEP is a prescription medicine and can only be supplied with a valid blood test or prescription. If you order without them and then ask for a refund instead of completing the tests or a consultation with our doctor, we refund your payment minus an 8% processing fee. If our doctor decides PrEP is not suitable for you, you get a full refund with no fee.

Before we can supply PrEP (KKM requirement), send us on WhatsApp +60 11-2615 1500 results from the last 12 months for:

1. HIV test
2. Kidney function test
3. Hepatitis B test

No results? Our doctor offers a free consultation and e-prescription. After you order, the doctor calls you briefly before your PrEP is sent.

Daily dosing: 1 tablet once a day at the same time. It takes about 7 days of daily use to reach full protection.

On-demand dosing (only for men who have sex with men, and only if our doctor advises it): 2 tablets 2 to 24 hours before sex, then 1 tablet 24 hours later, and 1 more 24 hours after that.

Good to know: see a doctor every 3 months for an HIV test and kidney check. PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections.

Most people have no side effects or only mild ones. In the first few weeks some people get:

• Nausea
• Headache
• Diarrhoea or loose stools
• Tiredness

These usually go away within a few weeks. Taking the tablet with food or at bedtime can help with nausea.

Rarely, PrEP can affect the kidneys or lower bone density. That is why your kidney function is checked before you start and regularly while you take it. Drink enough water, and ask our doctor about calcium and vitamin D if you are concerned about your bones.

• You must test HIV-negative before starting and every 3 months while taking PrEP. Taking PrEP when you already have HIV can make the virus resistant to treatment.
• Tell our doctor if you have kidney disease, hepatitis B or bone problems. If you have hepatitis B, do not stop PrEP without talking to our doctor, because the hepatitis can flare up.
• Tell our doctor about other medicines you take, especially anti-inflammatory painkillers (such as ibuprofen or diclofenac) taken regularly, because they can affect the kidneys.
• PrEP does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections or pregnancy.
