Travelling with sexual health medicines: what to pack, what to know and where to get help
What is in the Travel Sexual Health Kit (PrEP and Doxy PEP), how to carry medicines abroad with a travel letter, and when to get urgent help after a possible exposure.

The Travel Sexual Health Kit is for people who want their prescription sexual health medicines ready while they are away. It contains 10 Doxy PEP tablets and 10 PrEP tablets, plus hand sanitiser, mouthwash and an instruction guide. See the Travel Sexual Health Kit. Refills are sold separately: Sexual Health Kit Refilled Medicine.
Important: both medicines are prescription medicines. Our doctor reviews your order before it is sent, and you should take them only as your doctor advises and as the instruction guide in the kit explains.
What each medicine does
- PrEP is taken before possible exposure to HIV, daily or on demand for some people. Read the PrEP guide for Malaysia and daily vs on-demand PrEP.
- Doxy PEP is doxycycline taken after condomless sex to lower the risk of some bacterial infections, such as chlamydia and syphilis. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.
Carrying medicine when you travel
- Check the rules of your destination country before you fly. Some countries limit or ban certain medicines.
- Keep medicines in their original packaging, in your hand luggage.
- Carry a travel letter. CAREPLUS Clinic can issue one with your name, the medicines and your travel dates. It cannot be edited.
After a possible exposure
If you may have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, you need PEP, not PrEP. Start as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours. PrEP vs PEP explained.
Staying safe while away
- Use condoms. PrEP and Doxy PEP do not protect against all infections.
- Get tested for STIs when you return, or if you have symptoms.
- Seek urgent help for fever, a new rash, pain or a discharge that won’t go away.
Other sexual health concerns
If you are also thinking about HPV, read HPV explained and ask about the HPV vaccine.

Questions people ask
Can I bring PrEP and Doxy PEP on a plane?
Often yes for personal use, but rules differ by country. Check your destination's rules before you travel, keep medicines in their original packs, and carry a travel letter from your doctor. CAREPLUS can issue one with your name, the medicines and your travel dates.
Do these medicines protect against every STI?
No. PrEP protects against HIV only, and Doxy PEP reduces some bacterial infections. Neither protects against every infection, so condoms, testing and regular check-ups still matter.
How soon should I start PEP after a possible exposure?
As soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours and no later than 72 hours. Contact a doctor or go to an emergency department straight away.
