Overview

Active ingredientImiquimod 5% w/w (250 mg cream per sachet)

Aldara Cream contains imiquimod 5% w/w, an immune response modifier applied to the skin. Each box has 12 single-use sachets of 250 mg cream.

Aldara is used only for the skin conditions it is registered for, after a doctor has made the diagnosis. Our doctor confirms the diagnosis and that it suits you, and tells you how often and for how long to use it.

Review required. Answer a short health questionnaire at checkout. A CAREPLUS doctor reviews it before the cream is sent, and may contact you first or ask for a photo.

How to take

Use exactly as our doctor instructs. How often and for how long depends on the condition being treated, and our doctor will explain your schedule.

Apply a thin layer only to the area the doctor has advised, at bedtime, and rub it in until the cream disappears. Leave it on for the time your doctor advises (usually 6 to 10 hours), then wash the area with mild soap and water.

Wash your hands before and after applying. Use one sachet per application and throw away any cream left in an opened sachet. Do not cover the area with a bandage unless the doctor tells you to.

Side effects

Skin reactions where the cream is applied are common: redness, itching, burning, flaking, scabbing or swelling. If the reaction is severe, stop and contact our doctor. You can usually restart after a few days’ rest.

Some people get flu-like symptoms such as tiredness, fever, headache or muscle aches. Get medical help straight away for severe skin breakdown, blisters with fever, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Precautions

  • For external use on the skin only. Keep away from the eyes, lips and nostrils, and do not use inside the body.
  • Avoid sexual contact while the cream is on the skin. It can weaken condoms and diaphragms.
  • Treated skin can be more sensitive to the sun. Protect it from sunlight.
  • Tell the doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, or have an autoimmune condition, a weakened immune system or an organ transplant.
  • Not for children and teenagers under 18.
